Selecting the proper furniture for your living space can be overwhelming, here are some tips to think about when considering your furniture layout..

To make things easy, you always want to begin with the most crucial piece in your room.  In your living room, that would be the sofa or sectional.

When finding the perfect sofa or sectional, make sure you have measured the space in your room in order to find the perfect fit.  You want your sofa/sectional to be to scale to your room.

(ie. If you have a larger living room, you are not going to put a tiny sofa in it, you are going to want a larger sofa that is to scale to the room, therefore properly filling the space.)

Once you have selected the sofa(s)/sectional for your space, you want to begin to visualize different sized pieces to surround your main seating area.

Find side tables, and coffee tables that are in scale with your sofa/sectional, you can so this by eye, or by looking at the dimensions.  You do not was a tiny drinks table by itself next to a larger sectional, it would disappear, and not be proportionate to the other furniture in your room.

This goes for lamps as well, if you are using table lamps, you want to choose lamps that will be in harmony with the rest of the tables and sofa in your room.  Not too big, not too small, but just right for the space you have created.

To finalize your room, let's think of placing art or a mirror as an accent piece over your sofa/sectional.  Again, you are going to want to consider the scale of the pieces you have chosen before finding the right art piece to hang.

Your art should be in harmony with your sofa/sectional, you can achieve this by choosing either one proper sized art piece. You can also do this by finding 3 equal smaller pieces that when combined bring a harmonious scale to the room.

Another option is by combining a  grouping of many different sized small paintings to produce a mass group that is to scale to the sectional/sofa when grouped together.

Practicing these tips will help you to create the perfect harmonious living space!
