How To Choose The Proper Counter Stools For Your Kitchen

However, once you learn some key guidelines, you will be on your way to exploring all of the beautiful varieties of stools to choose from.

Before we begin, one important thing to note is the difference between a counter stool and a bar stool.

  A bar stool is meant for under a bar, a bar typically measures between 40-42" from the floor to the base of the counter.  Your standard bar stool height will measure between 29-32 inches, allowing it to fit comfortably under the counter of the bar.

 

NOTE: Kitchens with bar-styled islands can measure 42 inches from the floor, where a bar stool would work better instead.  This comes as an exception, however typically you would use a bar stool under a bar top.

 

 

 A counter stool's standard height on the other hand is between 24-29", fitting perfectly under the standard kitchen island height of 36", however counter tops can range between 34-39" from the floor to the edge of the counter.

  First thing you want to check off your list of course, is your measurements.

  There are many different models of how to properly measure your counter stool to your counter.  However, using the standard height guidelines above, will help you in deciding which size is best suited for your kitchen.

  Grab your measuring tape and measure the height of your counter, from the floor to the top of the counter.  📏

  After measuring your counter you can than look for counter stools that will seat properly for your height.  Always double check the height of the stool your are interested in before purchasing, so you know it will work!

 As a designer, one of the key factors in choosing proper furniture for clients is function.  How will the clients use their furniture? What is comfortable to them? Who will be using the furniture?

• Do you want flexibility to move around with a swivel type of stool? 
• Do you want stools with arms?
• Is there a certain upholstery that is better suited to your needs?
• Do you want a backless stool?

 Given there are many different factors in choosing the ideal counter stool to best suit the functionality of your lifestyle. Make sure you select one that will best suit your needs along with being appealing to your eye!

3. WHATS YOUR STYLE?

 The final step is not only the most fun, but it can also be the most complex.  Choosing the proper style stool that will best suit your kitchen.

 Clients run into this problem all the time, there are so many options to choose from, you are stuck in a candy store with a rainbow of stools at your disposal.🤔

 Although there are many ways to go about choosing the best counter stool for your kitchen, I will show you a few I like to do.

Adding Texture: Adding texture to any space will heighten the mood of the room!

 What best way to do this but with the counter stools in your kitchen. Almost like the final touch in jewelry to complete the outfit.

 ie. Imagine adding wooden stools to a solid colored kitchen, it would bring a delightful element to your kitchen, and definitely add interest!

Pairing Different Styles:  A refreshing way to add magnitude to your kitchen is choosing a different styled counter stool than the style of your kitchen.

 For instance: Imagine you have a traditional styled kitchen, and you choose a glam styled counter stool with polished brass accents.  What better way to pop your kitchen.

 *You can still style a modern stool with a modern kitchen, contrasting styles will just bring that dimension you are looking for.

Contrasting Colours:  You don't want to camouflage your counter stools by having the kitchen island the same colour as your counter stool. 

 Let's say you have a white kitchen, why not make your kitchen pop with a darker coloured stool?

 Adding colour to your kitchen will give a dramatic effect to the entire space!
