Every full-time working American puts in at least 40 hours a week, or 8 hours a day. Considering this is the same amount of time we spend sleeping, it's only logical to make our home office as cozy and inviting as our beds. Creating a comfortable yet functional workspace in our home is a must nowadays. Since most of us are still working from home due to the pandemic, we have to find a way to separate our home life from work life. This doesn't mean we have to turn our home office into a grey sterile space. Instead, let's put some thought into this workspace we're creating and design a stylish home office that will motivate and inspire us to work hard. Here are some fantastic ideas!

Invest in a great desk

The star of every office is the desk. This is where all the work gets done. Therefore, before making it stylish, you have to make it functional. Fortunately, many office desks are both chic and practical. Warm wood is always a good choice for an elegant and professional look. On the other hand, if you're more into the contemporary style, a modern metal desk is the perfect choice for you.

However, if you're looking for more of a Pinterest-kind of a home office, you should consider visiting the dining room department. Believe it or not, those chic office desks you see on social media are not even real desks - those are dining tables. Yes, you read that right. More and more people are opting for dining tables nowadays for two reasons. One - it provides a lot of working space, and two - it's unique and chic.

Therefore, if you want to design a stylish home office, these are the options you should definitely consider.

Don't forget a comfy chair

Besides the desk, the next piece of office furniture you should consider when designing a chic home office is a chair. Given that you spend 8 hours every day sitting in that chair, you have to put comfort above style. Finding a chair with proper support, height, and angle adjustability is crucial for your well-being. So, the best solution is to purchase an ergonomic one. There are various styles and colors of this kind of chair, so you should be able to find the one that fits your style.

On the other hand, if you want something different, some interior designers are suggesting armchairs instead of traditional office chairs. This might be on the more stylish end for sure. As a plus, armchairs are extremely comfortable. Just make sure to pick one with the right support.

Consider a refreshing color for the walls

We all know about "office beige", right? Well, we suggest you forget about this dull color for a second. Since you have the opportunity to design your own stylish home office, why don't you do it your way! Pick a color that inspires you and motivates you to work as hard as possible. They can be bright and fun colors such as orange or sky blue. If you're looking for a more zen look, go with green.

On the other hand, you can paint your walls white and then add a pop of color to an accent wall. You can even go with wallpaper to add some dimension to your home office.

Find a stylish storage solution

Every office is full of different office supplies that have to be organized properly in order to have a functional workspace. Therefore, if you're creating a home office, you'll have to think about a storage solution as well. The truth is, when we think about office storage, we immediately go to metal and industrial file cabinets. Fortunately, you don't have to limit yourself to those soulless cabinets. There are so many stylish options you can choose from. For example, consider sideboards, credenzas, built-in wood cabinets, or even smaller dressers with plenty of shelves.

Additionally, a stylish storage solution in your home office will motivate you to keep your office equipment organized at all times. This will come in handy when the time comes to move houses and pack all the office equipment you own. You'll be able to pack it with ease all by yourself, at least most of the equipment. You can always call a professional moving crew for the rest, right?

Choose a stylish flooring option

One of the great benefits of working from home is being able to not wear any shoes. Given that the elegant shoes we wear in the office are seldom comfortable, this is a huge plus. So, a nice soft carpet would be an excellent flooring solution for your home office. Additionally, you can install a hardwood floor and lay down a stylish rug under your desk. This is a sophisticated solution for your home office that will create a multi-layered and stylish look.

Create a bright working space

You can't design a stylish home office without the right lighting. If you want something unique, think breathtaking chandelier. This is something that will turn the stale office into a fabulous one. After all, nobody wants infamous neon lights that make the office atmosphere dull, right?

Additionally, put a nice table lamp on your office desk to brighten up the focal working space. Don't forget about natural light as well. There is nothing better than letting in a little bit of sunlight into your office.

Think green

Every office needs a little bit of greenery. So, choose some fun indoor plants for your office. They will clear the air in the room and boost your mood. Therefore, a Ficus Benjamina or a Cacti are a great solution for a lonely corner.

An office desk needs a green friend as well. Besides the obvious choices that are cactus and succulents, we also recommend Agalonema and Devil's Ivy. Philodendron is also a pretty choice! Whichever plant(s) you choose, the greenery will create a more tranquil and engaging workspace.

Personalize it

If you want to motivate yourself to work and be successful at your job, you'll need to make your workspace engaging. The best thing you can do is to put a little home into your office. For example, hang inspirational posters above your desk. If you're into art, there is a bunch of inspiring wall art that will get your creative juices flowing. Scented candles, sculptures, and books also make up for great decoration.

There is nothing more motivating than our family, right? So, frame a few family photos and display them around the office to remind yourself for whom you're doing all this hard work.

Manage all the cords

Every office needs electronics such as a computer, laptop, printer, etc. Therefore, if you want to design a stylish home office, you'll need to manage all the exposed wires and cords from the electronics. This is one of the eyesores of every office. So, consider buying cord sleeves and coverings. Additionally, installing a desk grommet is a great solution for maintaining the cord and wire jungle. People also use wire organizers and cord winders, so put them on your list as well.
