Often confused with Modern design, these two popular styles do have a distinction between them.

Contemporary design is in the moment, it's what's hot right now.  Whereas Modern design can involve anything afterwards of the 1950s.

Contemporary style also has more flexibility in its style, allowing curved and free flowing lines into its design, when Modern is more so linear and squared.
